Teton Regional Land Trust and Sandhill Cranes Teton Regional Land Trust Land, Community, & Conservation

Our Mission
The mission of the Teton Regional Land Trust is to conserve agricultural and natural lands and to encourage land stewardship in the Upper Snake River Watershed for the benefit of today’s communities and as a legacy for future generations.

Guiding Principles and Values
The Teton Regional Land Trust's (TRLT) conservation efforts are for charitable and educational intentions exclusively. We believe it is vital to be professional, fair, and accountable in all our activities as a non-profit community organization. We are committed to build and sustain an organization that can provide conservation opportunities and stewardship in perpetuity.

TRLT is a regional organization with a regional perspective. We believe that open space provides important ecological, economic, educational, recreational, and spiritual benefits to the watersheds and communities of our region. We work pro-actively and collaboratively to conserve these open space resources throughout the Upper Snake River Valley.

We value natural land for its biological diversity, soil and water quality, and scenic beauty, and recognize the importance of corridors that link these landscapes. We value agricultural lands for their economic, social and ecological benefits. We strive to help families retain their family lands.

TRLT values and honors past and present generations of land stewards as examples for the future. We foster good resource stewardship through educational outreach, cooperative work with willing landowners, and celebration of our resources and people. We believe that knowledge and awareness can give regional residents and landowners the will and the power to conserve our natural and cultural resources.

TRLT is a community-based, grass-roots organization that involves all interested members of our regional communities to define our conservation mission and achieve our goals. The Board, Staff, volunteers, and members of TRLT have a strong sense of ownership and involvement in TRLT programs. Participants are empowered to exercise their ability, energy, and creativity in accomplishment of our shared mission. We strive to make our partners and cooperators feel engaged and valued.

The TRLT is an apolitical organization. We do not become involved in land use conflicts in an adversarial role. We work toward solutions that support inclusive dialogue, conserve important open space, and sustain ecological and economic diversity. TRLT facilitates conservation solutions by fostering collaboration among landowners, land management agencies, and planners.

TRLT uses a dynamic and comprehensive system to prioritize its open space resource conservation efforts in the Upper Snake River Valley. TRLT uses this process carefully to assure that all its conservation projects provide a measurable public benefit. TRLT plans its conservation programs strategically to encourage economic development that is broadly mindful of resource values and future costs.

TRLT works with willing landowners in cooperative conservation of priority landscapes. TRLT strives to make landowners fully aware of available conservation options to assure that each landowner has the information needed to make informed decisions. TRLT fully discloses the financial implications of its transactions, and encourages landowners to seek professional tax and legal advice.

TRLT works diligently to develop the financial resources needed to sustain its perpetual conservation and stewardship commitments. TRLT strives for the financial capacity to respond to priority conservation needs as they arise throughout the region.
