Sand Creek & Middle Henry's Fork

henrysforkThis is a key area of eastern Idaho for ensuring connectivity for large carnivors and big game species moving between summer habitats within Yellowstone National Park and winter habitats centered around the Sand Creek Desert. Specifically this area encompasses Big Bend Ridge, the Fall River and private lands surrounding the Sand Creek and Chester Wildlife Management Areas.

In a comprehensive assessment of ecological values throughout the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem (GYE), the Henry’s Fork River was ranked the number two conservation priority within the entire GYE for its combination of ecological irreplaceability and vulnerability. This assessment considered three primary aspects of biological diversity, the rare and sensitive plant and animal species and populations, the representation of a full spectrum of vegetative, abiotic, and aquatic habitat features; and large, wide-ranging wildlife.
