Hollingstead Homestead Restoration

hollingsteadOne of the oldest remaining homesteads in Teton Valley lies northeast of Felt on the Pinochle Loop Road just west of the National Forest boundary. The Hollingshead Homestead, named after its turn-of-the-century homesteaders, Miles and Carl Hollingshead, is part of the 40-acre conservation easement property donated to the Land Trust in 2002 by Connie Mohr and Dean Scofield.

The Hollingshead Homestead features eight uniquely constructed buildings with the oldest structure dating as early as 1906. Because of the historic significance of the property and interest from the current landowner, Connie Mohr, the Land Trust worked with Mohr to enlist the homestead on the National Register of Historic Places in 2005. After receiving the National Register listing, the Land Trust and Mohr secured a grant from the Idaho Heritage Trust to restore one of the oldest cabins of the Homestead. The Idaho Heritage Trust grant monies, along with private donations, enabled the restoration of the cabin’s foundation, floor joists, floor, windows and chinking. Homestead neighbor, John Grassi, completed the work during the summers of 2006 and 2007 – contributing much of his time as an in-kind match.

The Teton Regional Land Trust, the Idaho Heritage Trust and landowner Connie Mohr are interested in pursuing additional restoration of structures on the Hollingshead Homestead. To enable further restoration, Idaho Heritage Trust grant funds must be matched by federal or private donations.
