TRLT Receives 1% for the Tetons Grant
The Teton Regional Land Trust is excited to have received a generous $4,000 grant from the 1% for the Tetons to ensure that visitors who enjoy the Teton River are aware of the natural resources and private land conservation work that has made their unique visiting experience possible.
Since 1994, the Teton Regional Land Trust has worked with willing landowners to conserve nearly 7,200 acres along the Teton River and its tributaries, protecting over 25 miles along the river and its tributaries from dense residential development.
While private land conservation on the Teton River has been enormously successful, many residents and visitors do not realize that the outstanding recreation opportunities and scenic beauty they enjoy are in part due to local conservationists working with willing landowners to keep riverside properties undeveloped. Strategically sharing the story of the Teton River resources and conservation successes will help promote protection of the last gaps of unprotected properties along the Teton River.
This project focuses on effective outreach that will reach conservationists through communications vehicles that are tailored for them. The grant will allow the Teton Regional Land Trust to provide waterproof materials for river users to have throughout the floating season. The campaign will also organize an educational event for Teton River guides in spring 2012. Teton Regional Land Trust will also create a brochure with compelling information about conservation successes on the Teton River.
1% for the Tetons is a project of the Jackson-based Charture Institute. 1% for the Tetons funds and otherwise encourages efforts furthering the long-term sustainability of the Teton region’s extraordinary natural resources and related essential qualities. 1% for the Tetons members donate one percent of their sales to 1% for the Tetons, which uses those contributions to fund projects focusing on the long-term sustainability of the Tetons region. In its first five years, 1% for the Tetons has awarded a total of $556,745 to 44 different projects.
